On the heels on "Hot Pastrami" (a reworking of Nat Kendricks & the Swans' "Mashed Potatoes") comes this hastily assembled LP named after it. The Dartells' sound was dominated by energized organ playing riffs, frantic horns, and half-baked soul adgeupormanirehoutohoderedi.coinfo formula worked on "Hot Pastrami," a number 11 pop hit in , but failed on everything else they ever did.5/

Their one main claim to national fame, Hot Pastrami, was developed as a takeoff on (Do The) Mashed Potatoes by Nat Kendrick & The Swans, itself a low-ranking # 84 Billboard Pop Hot in February (but a decent # 8 R&B), and in April-May The Dartells found themselves peaking at # 11 Hot and # 15 R&B b/w The Dartell Stomp as Dot

Galen Mills comments are questionable. One, The Dartells recorded for Dot Records, not Capital. Two, while it is true that Corky Wilke was not on the 45 Hot Pastrami or the b-side Dartell Stomp, he is all over the album. That's him doing most of the vocal parts, along with the late Doug Phillips.

The Dartells were an American rock band from Oxnard, California.. The group formed in while its members were teens, and won local attention under the umbrella of manager/record producer Tom Ayers. They released a single in entitled "Hot Pastrami", which was a takeoff of Nat Kendrick & the Swans' "Mashed Potatoes". Dot Records picked the song up for national distribution, and it.
