McGuinn himself is all over the film soundtrack album, with a Byrds track, Wasn’t Born to Follow, and solo acoustic performances of Dylan’s It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) and a new song which he co-wrote with Dylan himself, Ballad of Easy Rider. But McGuinn had no intention of spending the rest of his career in a Nudie suit.

If Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde found Roger McGuinn having to re-create the Byrds after massive personnel turnovers (and not having an easy time of it), Ballad of Easy Rider was the album where the new lineup really hit its stride. Gracefully moving back and forth between serene folk-rock (the title cut, still one of McGuinn's most beautiful melodies), sure-footed rock & roll .

The remasterings of the Byrds catalog have been highly-praised, and deservedly so, but listening to the vintage CD version of The Ballad of Easy Rider, I find the album's original song configuration to be quite strong on its own terms, and the sound quite good/5(76).

"Ballad of Easy Rider" is a song written by Roger McGuinn, with input from Bob Dylan, for the film, Easy Rider. The song was initially released in August on the Easy Rider soundtrack album as a Roger McGuinn solo performance. It was later issued in an alternate version as a single by McGuinn's band the Byrds on October 1, The Byrds' single .

Nov 15,  · "Ballad of Easy Rider" will always be overshadowed in the Byrds catalog, mostly because "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" had been such a musical transition from the classic sound of the original group, and the primary critical focus on "Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde" had been on the new line-up, rather than its musical value/5(75).
